Beyond the Ordinary celebrates the birdlife—both literal and imagined—found within and around Kath Unsworth’s South Coast garden. Through two contrasting yet complementary artistic voices, the exhibition brings together intricate pen-and-ink realism and whimsical coloured-pencil dreamscapes, each portraying native birds and insects in distinctive ways. These parallel narratives invite viewers to reflect on our evolving relationship with the natural world: the impulse to observe birds with care and reverence, and the equally human desire to imagine and befriend wildlife. Together, the works blur boundaries between science and story, observation and imagination, offering a poetic meditation on our coexistence with nature.
